The theme of the journey, "Feast for the Senses," came to life through a variety of engaging and exceptionally fun experiences. We ate well, we learned a bunch, we were in awe of the scenery, we appreciated art, we worked hard, we went shopping, we drank wine, we forged new connections, and a good time was had by all.
After everyone's plane arrived, we zipped up into the hills of the Luberon and made ourselves comfortable in our private villa, where we would be staying for the week. Our first day was spent enjoying a Sunday market, finding regional treasures and enjoying lunch in the center of town. It started POURING rain (up to my ankles!) so we pivoted our plans to explore a fascinating modern art museum which was hosting an exhibit of women artists.
We ventured to Avignon the next day, enjoying a tour of the town, an incredible lunch, and time in the amazing Palace of the Popes. The next morning was devoted to an indulgent spa experience, followed by an afternoon in a quaint town filled with artisans' workshops; we ended up enjoying a pleasant walk through the darling town rather than buying much. More local markets and other shopping were the theme of the following day, as well as a stop in the place where Van Gogh created some of his masterpieces.
Day six was spent in one of the Plus-Beaux Villages (one of the prettiest towns in France), visiting shops and the town's chateau. One of us ate the biggest sundae any of us had ever seen. We finished the evening in giggles as we stomped grapes while singing along to old French tunes. No trip to Provence is complete without a visit to the astounding Pont du Gard and we added more Roman history by visiting an ancient Roman theater.
After saying goodbye to our villa and packing the car, we set off for a perfume making workshop, ending the day in vibrant Marseille. The last day was fun because everyone got to pick what she wanted to do most and we ended the evening with a celebration dinner, raising our glasses in a toast to an amazing trip and the new friends we'd made.
