Spring 2026 travels will be announced soon!
I’m Libby Cecchi, Chief Travel Operator of Gallivant & Traipse and I’m glad you’ve found me. Have you always dreamed of going to France? Have you been to Paris but never beyond? If you’re a woman ready for your first or next adventure in France, you’ve come to the right place! With a small group of like-minded women and a fluent, friendly host there to guide you around, you’ll enjoy the time of your life.
I am fun, friendly, and in love with France. I’ve been called “Julie McCoy” more than once. (If you’re my age, you know who this is. If you’re not, go watch an episode of “Love Boat.”)
I don’t know when my love affair with France began, but it was definitely early since I chose to start studying it in 8th grade. I first got to France when I was 19 years old and it was everything I’d ever dreamed it would be! Gorgeous; filled with chocolate, bread, cheese, and wine; and surrounded by people kissing each other’s cheeks and speaking in the most beautiful language I’d ever heard.
Leaving college with a degree in French, I had all these highfalutin’ and romantic ideas about traveling the world but found myself faced with car payments and rent. I quickly landed a job which led to a great career in the training industry which led to an amazing career in user experience research—and yet I continued to travel to France, leading tours, whenever the opportunity arose.
Like many others before me, a big turning point in my life came at age fifty. The world was at the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic, and I took a totally inspiring trip to Europe. Three weeks, three areas, three different groups of family and friends. Upon returning home, I realized how happy I was and that I needed more of this in my life. That’s when Gallivant & Traipse was born.
I named my travel business Gallivant & Traipse upon inspiration from the French word flâneuse. There’s really no direct translation into English for this word. Une flâneuse is a woman who strolls, who lingers, who isn’t in a hurry. She stops to smell the flowers; she takes her time over coffee. So while I have to do some advance planning because certain things require tickets or reservations, I try as much as possible to leave lots of flexibility, and lots of time for discovery.
Small groups. With only 4-5 travelers, we can make meaningful connections, traipse about in our own car (that I drive), and stay in smaller, boutique lodging.
Flexible. Are we tired of an activity and want to move on? Do we want to spend more time at a location? Are we suddenly hungry and need a snack? We can do any of that.
Immersive. Our small groups make only a small impact on France. Without overwhelming the environments we’re in, we have the ability to experience deep interactions with our French hosts.
Restful. Our pacing is reasonable: we plan only 2-3 activities per day, with extra options depending on time and energy. Coffee at 8, lunch at noon, rest at 5, bed by 10.
Comfortable. Don’t speak French? I do, and very well. Like your own space? You’ll have it—everyone gets their own bedroom and bathroom.
Our travelers are curious types of women, interested in other people and having new experiences, perhaps learning a thing or two. We are kind, seeking to understand by asking questions to learn about another culture rather than passing judgement. We are seeking more joy in our lives by embracing novelty. And we are not just there for what I call check-box tourism. I promise you will see amazing sites and get plenty of photos, but we definitely won’t have time for it all because we won’t be racing around trying to fit it all in.
Let me introduce you to a couple of women who have joined me for past gallivants. If you would like to talk to anyone for a testimonial, I can put you in touch.
Brenda is a fun, active woman who can spend an entire day curled up on her couch reading novels with her dog by her side. As a child, she was a dancer and cheerleader; today she uses that energy in her career as a nurse in an oncology department. Before nursing, she was a marketing executive at a non-profit organization which helped kids and young adults with disabilities, neurodivergent personalities, and mental health issues, so you can see the connection there. She was born in rural southern Minnesota but discovered she was a city girl when she moved to Minneapolis. She and her husband have three children, between the ages of “getting there” and “pretty much grown-up.”
Lisa is an entrepreneur—a jeweler—focused on using cultural relics and the natural world to inspire her artisan aesthetic. She started her own company about 13 years ago and is always looking for ways to improve her business. Lisa grew up moving around the world due to her dad’s job; she has lived in places like Mexico, Guatemala, Spain, and Wisconsin before moving to Minnesota permanently. She and her husband have one delightful daughter who is in graduate school. She owns one cat and used to have two dogs and dearly wishes she could once again but is trying to simplify her life. She loves the Northeast shore, Pilates, Greek food, and stalking dogs and puppies on social media.
You just need to pack and get on the plane. Does it get any easier? Ok, so there may be just a few more details involved but really, it’s that simple.
If you see a tour and it piques your interest, let me know! We will have a conversation. Since our travel groups are uniquely small, we need to check for compatibility.
In the months leading up to the trip, I’ll be connecting with you in a few different ways. I’ll send helpful documents like packing lists and some key phrases you’ll want to learn. I’ll create a private Facebook page for you and the other travelers so you can get to know each other a little before the trip. I’ll also be providing you with background information on some of the places we’ll be on the tour, so that you can get context and better appreciate the sites you’re about to see. When possible, I’ll arrange a French culturally appropriate in-person meet-up before traveling.
Then comes the packing and the travel. Don’t forget your passport! You may need to change planes somewhere but there will be dozens of multi-lingual guides who can help. And I’ll meet you when you arrive.
While on the tour, I will be supporting you in the following ways. I will…
be your chauffeur – no waiting on drivers to pick us up!
be your translator – ready to help you order or just stepping in when you get stuck.
pay for all tour-inclusive activities and meals.
provide you with an overview for each day, so you will be in the know and ready to go.
find lunch places to eat.
have tickets ready as necessary.
take photos of you!
get you back to the airport on time for your flight back home.
I don’t just want to show your France, I want to host you there. It makes me happy to see delight on the faces of my clients. The joy of a beautiful garden. The ecstasy of the first bite of chocolate mousse. The smile while sipping wine. Marveling at a chateau from the Middle Ages. The wonderment demonstrated while appreciating a great work of art. I want you to leave France relaxed and with a smile, thinking of all the fond memories you created along the way. This won’t just be a trip to France. This will be an experience with a small circle of women like yourself.
What can you do? With the tow truck.
I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve traveled around France. Throughout the years, I’ve taken friends, families, and clients, many of whom have trusted me enough to go back multiple times! With my past planning and execution experience, fluency in French, and flexibility, we always enjoy a good time.
Do things always go perfectly? Nope. Want an example?
One morning, while cruising along the coast of the Côte d’Azur, the rental car I had just picked up started behaving erratically. Like sputtering, and choking, almost stopping in the middle of the road. We entered the autoroute, but I was only able to drive it at half speed, which was pretty dangerous. I pulled off the road and into a rest stop with a gas station and proceeded to contact the rental car company. Minor brag incoming: my clients were impressed with my faculty with the language of broken-down cars in French! Eventually we were towed to a service station, took a taxi to get to our destination, and enjoyed the day that we had planned, though it was cut short by a little bit. The best part was the vehicle upgrade we got the next day: we went from a little Citroën to a luxurious, upscale BMW!
We may have to go around a roundabout a couple of times, but I’ll get us to our destination, singing along to one of my awesome playlists while we go.

At Gallivant & Traipse, we believe in supporting women not only through the journeys we create but also through the causes that matter most to their lives. That’s why a portion of our profits goes to Planned Parenthood, an organization dedicated to providing essential healthcare, education, and advocacy for women and families. Their work ensures that women everywhere have access to the resources they need to make informed choices about their health and their futures which are values that align closely with our mission of empowerment, community, and care. It feels deeply important to me to stand with an organization that uplifts and protects women in such tangible ways.
The map above shows most of the locations I've been. I'll be updating the map as my explorations take me further!
Now that you know me a little better, why not go check out the current tours I have on offer?
